I Love It When A Plan Comes Together

This is our grade school barkada. We called ourselves The A-Team 2, and had calling cards printed out, grappling hooks made and missions to accomplish - mainly to rid neighborhoods of bullies and to make life hell for the folks in the grade school honors class and the teachers we disliked.

Leslie, Torqui, Mervin and me. Plus Keith (these photos are for your benefit, bud) who was the extra man. Apat lang kasi ang A-Team, so si Keith yung babae.

Here we are 25 years later!

Long Distance Pumping

I've been interested in skateboarding using longboards for the past few weeks and a friend's nudge eventually led me to a technique called LDP or Long Distance Pumping, where skaters propel themselves forward without their feet touching the ground. They shimmy and wiggle in order to achieve forward motion, even going uphill. Seems to be a bragging point the longer you can go without kicking the ground. It looks mighty funny though.

X-MINIMAX Capsule Speakers

The great thing about my day job as a tech reviewer is all the cool gadgets that land on my desk. The not-so-great thing about my day job as a tech reviewer is that you get tired of seeing the same cookie-cutter gadgets again and again, such as portable speakers for digital audio players. But, once in a while, something comes up that captures my fancy and tickles my ears, something like the X-MINIMAX capsule speakers.

By “capsule,” I mean that these speakers, undeployed, take the shape of a large antibiotic pill, the kind you shove down your throat to kill off any nasty infections. Two speaker units connect magnetically at the base to form the distinct capsule shape, small enough to fit in a jacket pocket. Setting up is a matter of cracking them apart and connecting them to your audio source via the supplied retractable cables. Once you’ve connected everything, position each speaker pod on either side of your audio source and crack ‘em open. By that, I mean each pod actually cracks ...

Thanks to Luis Katigbak, who, along with my wife Lala, have a book launch tonight, for introducing me to wordle.net.
Dinner at Ninja Akasaka

My Japan itinerary says that we are having Friday dinner at the Ninja Akasaka, a ninja-themed restaurant with ninjas providing the entertainment. Will they be somersaulting over the tables to serve food? Will they shuriken the heads off the tempura? Will they slice up the Kobe beef with their wakizashi? I'm giddy hahahaha!
